Mike White (QuarterBack)
Mike White is an American football quarterback (born March 25, 1995) for the New York Jets in the National Football League. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft after playing college football.
Early years
White attended the NSU University School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He did not become a starter at quarterback until his senior season, but he led his team to victory in the 3A state championship and passed for 2,201 yards. The Class 3A Florida Player of the Year was named. He is going to play college football at the University of South Florida.
White was considered to be a highly regarded baseball pitcher. White received All-Broward County honors as a junior and had a 9–2 win-loss record with a 0.43 earned run average in baseball.
College career
South Florida
White started five games as a freshman at South Florida in 2013, but he struggled, completing 93 of 175 passes for 1,083 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions.
His sophomore season was when he was named the starter prior in 2014. In 10 starts in his sophomore season, he completed 122 of 241 passes for 1,639 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Western Kentucky
White transferred to Western Kentucky University after Willie Taggart switched from a pro-style attack to a spread offense and he missed the entire 2015 season due to NCAA transfer rules. White was named the starting quarterback to open the 2016 season, taking over for Brandon Doughty, who left for the NFL draft. White started the first 14 games of the season, completing 281 of 416 passes for 4,363 yards with 37 touchdowns and seven turnovers.
White started at quarterback for the Huskies his senior year, completing 368 of 560 passes for 4,177 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Professional career
On November 30, 2017, it was announced that White had accepted his invitation to play in the Senior Bowl. On January 27, 2018, White completed 8 of 11 pass attempts for 128-yards and two touchdowns as a member of Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien’s South team in Reese’s Senior Bowl. White helped his draft stock with his performance at the Senior Bowl.
The combine and drills were completed by all of the players that attended. His draft rise was hampered by his overall performance after he put up some of the lowest marks among all quarterbacks in combine drills, and he only performed at Western Kentucky’s pro day on March 30, 2018. He attended pre-draft visits with the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins and also performed a private workout for the New England Patriots.
White was projected to be a third or fourth-round pick by the majority of experts and scouts at the end of the pre-draft process in the NFL. He was ranked the eighth-best quarterback by Scouts Inc., and the eighth-best by DraftScout.com.
New York Jets
The New York Jets signed White to their practice squad on September 25, 2019. He signed a future contract with the Jets on December 30th.

He was elevated to the active roster on October 10 and October 17 for the team’s weeks 5 and 6 games against the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, and was promoted to the practice squad after each game. He was re-signed to the practice squad on November 10, a day after he was released from the active roster. He was promoted to the active roster a second time on November 21. He was released from the practice squad the next day and signed the reserve/future contract with the Jets on January 4, 2021.
White made his regular season debut after an injury to the starting quarterback in the second quarter of the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots. The Jets missed two-point conversion in the third quarter, which would have made it a two-score game. White finished the game with 202 passing yards, one touchdown, and 2 turnovers as the Pats ran away with it in the 54–13 defeat. Wilson made his first career start against the Cincinnati Bengal on October 31, 2021. White briefly left the game due to a head injury, but returned and finished the game completing 37 of 45 passes for 405 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions as the Jets won 34–31. He was named the AFC offensive player of the week by his peers. He became the first Jets quarterback since 2000 in Vinny Testaverde to throw for 400+ yards and the first quarterback in the league to do so in his first career start, as he was named the AFC offensive player of the week.
White re-signed with the Jets for one year and $54 million on March 16, 2022.
