For Wednesday night’s drawing, the grand prize is up to $420 million.

In its 30th year, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the popular lottery game. Minnesota was one of 15 states that participated in the game at the beginning. In the US, 48 states offer the game to residents.

Winning lottery tickets have been sold in Minnesota 22 times over the past 30 years, third behind the Hoosier Lottery 39 and the Mississippi Lottery 31, according to the Powerball officials.

Since 2003 Minnesota has been the home of seven Powerball winners. The Happy Huskers won in Holdingford in 2003 and are the most notable for us here in central Minnesota. There was a winner from Indiana and they split a $99.5 million ticket.

In our state, we haven’t had a Powerball winner in a while since 2013.
