Neil Young formed his first band, the Jades, when he was in high school. He dropped out of school to pursue a full-time career as a musician after getting involved in the music scene so much.

Career

“Sugar Mountain” and many other folk hits were written by Young after leaving The Squires. He achieved mainstream success for the first time with “Flying on the Ground is Wrong” by The Guess Who. The band fronted by Rick James was called the Mynah Birds. Young and Bruce Palmer traveled to Los Angeles to look for new opportunities after the group’s dissolution.

Personal Life

Neil Young and his first wife, Susan Avecedo, were married in 1968. She filed for divorce after only two years of marriage. Young was in a relationship with Carrie Snodgress over the course of five years. They had one child together while they were in a relationship. Young married the woman he met while she was working as a waitress at a diner near his ranch in 1978. After 36 years of marriage, Neil and Pegi were divorced in 2014.. Neil Young met actress Daryl Hannah and married her four years after that.

In 2005 Young was diagnosed with a brain injury. He passed out two days after bleeding heavily from a femoral artery, despite having undergone a successful neuroradiological procedure.

Real Estate

Neil Young purchased a 1,000-acre property in La Honda, California in 1970 for $350,000. He bought thousands of additional acres to expand the property. Neil listed his home in Hawaii for over twenty million dollars in November 2015. He eventually sold the property for $20 million.

Neil purchased a home in Malibu, California from his girlfriend in 2016 for $3.6 million. The property was purchased in 2001 for over a million dollars. She tried to sell it for as much as $5 million before. The house was destroyed in a fire in November of 2018.
