Republicans have gained ground in unexpected places.

With a week to go until the elections, a number of Republican candidates are gaining ground in states that lean Democrat.

With a number of Governor races still seemingly going to the wire, there are some races in California, Connecticut, and New York that are starting to take unexpected turns, while it is still essentially a toss-up on who will end up controlling the House and the Senate after November

If the GOP can come out on top in the elections, they will need to hold onto their congressional and Senate seats, as well as pull off some shock victories in key Blue or swing states, in order to win.

Newsweek examined three races that may still have the Democrats in a state of panic and found that gaining ground in some initial polls may not be a sure sign of an eventual win for the GOP.
