He earned his first Theater World Award for his performance.
In the late ’70s and early ’80s, Gere appeared in a number of films. He had been cast in a starring role in 1974’s The Lords of Flatbush, but was replaced after a fight with his co-star. He got noticed for his roles in small films like Looking for Mr. Goodbar in 1977 and Malick’s Days of Heaven in 1978. Cary and Gere were married in November of 2002. They have a boy, Homer James Jigme Gere, who was born in 2000. In the New York County Supreme Court, they had a highly contentious divorce in 2013. The case was resolved in October of 2017.
Real Estate
In 2005, Richard paid over $7 million for a home in Sag Harbor, NY, called Strongheart Manor. The home has expansive lawns and 300 feet of bay frontage. He extensively renovated the property over the next few years, mostly the main house.The property was listed for 70 million dollars. The price was lowered to $47.5 million and he accepted $32 million. The buyer was Matt Lauer in 2013.
Richard’s primary home is in New York. He bought the property in 1987 for 1.5 million dollars. The estate was for sale in January of 2022. He accepted an offer of $24.15 million in June 2022.
A new 35-acre estate in the New York town of North Salem was put together by Richard and Silva in 2020 after paying $10.5 million over two transactions.
An apartment in New York City is also owned by him.
